Guide to Reopening for Georgia Restaurants

June 8, 2020 – Guide To Reopening for Georgia Restaurants

The Georgia Restaurant Association appreciates Governor Kemp’s support of our restaurant community. The safety, health and well-being of Georgia’s restaurant owners, workers and guests has always been the absolute top priority of our organization. We ask that restaurants and diners follow the rules set by the Office of the Governor. During this transitional period, we are all in, Georgia’s restaurants request respect, patience and understanding with regards to the pace of reopening. Some may be ready to welcome diners back, while many will need additional time to confirm their individual supply chain, initiate new operational standards, and ensure the safety of their staff and guests.

On May 28, 2020 Governor Brian Kemp issued his latest executive order. Beginning at midnight June 1 and ending at 11:59 p.m. June 15, restaurants and dining services that choose to open must mitigate the exposure of COVID-19 to customers and workforce using precautions listed in the May 28th order. Banquet facilities, private event facilities, and private reception venues where food is served must now adhere to the same measures as restaurants and dining services.

The GRA has worked with the National Restaurant Association, representatives of the Food and Drug Administration, academia, the Conference for Food Protection, Ecolab, the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Office of the Governor and industry representatives to develop a set of opening and operating guidelines specific to Georgia to help restaurants return to full operation safely when the time comes.

This guidance is designed to provide you with a basic summary of recommended practices that can be used to help mitigate exposure to the COVID-19 virus, including: food safety, cleaning and sanitizing, employee health and social distancing.

We trust each individual restaurant will use the resources provided to make a responsible choice that is best for their business and their community.
